Need some suggestions for “Community Gatherings” -

Everyone who joins 90s summer gets access and perks.

I don’t really wanna use discord tho

Wait so do you mean community gatherings like for this online community? Like the for the people who are joining the 90s Summer? As a way to stay in touch and share the good things happening?

- Game night

- go to a community concert (for example our local park puts on “Bluegrass in the Park” every Wednesday in the summer

- set up a giant slip and slide

- go for a bike ride

- visit the roller skating rink, arcade and/or bowling alley

- go to a local carnival or fair

Okay people this might be a silly question but would it count if i only use my phone for texting and calling my fam and not anything else? Or do i 100% need to get a dumbphone to be in? :)

That works — but I’d suggest deleting other apps

sweet. Yeah that's probably a good idea. Tbh i really only still have instagram because of Phylicia Masonheimer, you, and some other artists I really like lol! but yes a break will definitely be beneficial and is much needed.

There are a some apps for smartphones that help dumb down the phone to only essentials. I'm not sure if that would be helpful.

Time to make a reading list and get back into the habit of daily creative writing (in a notebook!!!)! And maybe a weekly bike ride to get ice cream or to the park? A childhood favorite that I don’t want my kids to miss out on…

Just curious-no Substack either-writing or reading?

Substack counts - unless you use it like a drug.

I’m only gonna use it on my laptop - zero phone access.

So stoked about this! Painted a sign for my kids’ first day of summer break that says “Summer like it’s 1999”

We’re unplugging all of our streaming subscriptions, going to the library for movies, and just put our huge binder of cds in the minivan.

Also, are you wanting a community platform that enables voice/video or just text?

I wanna do both video and then also a forum thing. I think it would be cool to have a virtual social outlet that works FOR us and not against us.

Josh this is awesome. Thanks for sharing the idea and pushing us to live for the good things. Super interested in doing this!! I think it would be so good for me. And real FUN. But I’ve created such strong rhythms with technology. It’s almost like breaking an addiction! lol And I feel like there’s hurdles to overcome. Probably mostly mental ones. And logistical questions. Anyone else feeling drawn to this but overwhelmed with getting started?

for “daily gospel readings” does that mean just reading the Bible every day?

My family decided to do screen-free June before I even saw this so I’m taking that as a sign we should do your version! Can’t wait!

Also just another idea, this is something I want to start getting into the habit of so maybe this will be a good time to start! Writing letters to your loved ones. My aunt used to write letters and poems to my sister and I when we were younger and I still have some of them. So precious. There is something about hand written letters. Better start working on my handwriting too because boy is it rough. Even though I write and journal basically everyday, sometimes I can barely read my own stuff LOL.

I am so wanting to do this! And I'm going to see if some of my family members and friends want to do it too.

Thank you for putting all these great ideas together!

I'm just curious, have you heard of the 1KHO (Ginny Yurich) podcast? It is so wonderful and I just see so many connections with your message of truth. Her work is aimed at childhood and restoring what has been lost there and helping parents understand the importance of childhood. I see your work as helping to heal and restore those of us who are now adults and help get us back on that path of living wisely and with wonder, you know, like helping us get that childlike heart back so we can have a childlike faith. I don't think we were ever made to lose that. I think Jesus has so much to teach us through children and the process of childhood itself and your work has really helped me regain that truth. So, many thanks to you and yours!

PS I just finished your book last week and I am recommending it to everyone I talk to lol!

Love this! Love the idea of doing a weekly meet up. I recently joined a philosophy club and wrote and essay piece for a zine. Wanna start writing more.
